Four steps to landing
Book a ferry
Ferries depart from Pohang, Mukho, Gangneung, or Ulleungdo (Dodong/Jeodong). Most trips to Dokdo are sold as a package via Ulleungdo.
Apply to land
Submit a landing application through the Dokdo management office or a travel agency, usually by the day before departure, with ID verification required.
Check the weather
Dokdo's landing conditions are notoriously difficult, and trips are often cancelled due to weather. Always check the final notice on the morning of departure.
Landing and stay
Once docked, visitors typically stay for about 20–30 minutes along a fixed route. Please follow the guides on site.

Frequently asked questions
Can I stay overnight on Dokdo?
No — overnight stays are not permitted for the general public. Only personnel such as the Dokdo guard unit and lighthouse staff reside there; visitors are day-trip only.
Do I get a refund if the weather cancels my visit?
If landing is cancelled due to weather, most ferry operators or travel agencies offer a refund or substitute it with an Ulleungdo tour. Check the cancellation policy when booking.
Do I need a passport or special permit?
Korean citizens only need to submit a landing application — no special permit is required. Foreign visitors may need additional identity verification arranged through a travel agency.
